This year, Forward Racing-Norco created a fund to support up-and-coming mountain bike athletes. Evan McNeely and Andrew L’Esperance of Forward Racing have been very fortunate to receive the support of countless individuals on the Canadian mountain bike scene; both through their own development and with the creation of the team. This support and generosity is what keeps our sport going and they wanted to be a part of that process.
The application process for 2017 is now complete and the recipients have been chosen. The recipients were presented with the award at Mountain Bike National Championships this past week in Canmore, AB. The first recipients of the Forward Racing Development Fund Award are Anne-Julie Tremblay of Saguenay, QC and Thomas Hulton of Warminster, ON. Here is some information about this years recipients.
Anne-Julie is 21 years old and is a very well-rounded individual from Saguenay, QC. She races for the Cyclones d’Alma Club. She has big goals of representing Canada at World Championships in Cairns, Australia and doing her province proud at Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg, MB. Anne-Julie said this about her season and receiving the Forward Racing Award, “I surprised myself this summer, racing higher than what I would have expected, and this grant gives me even more motivation.” She is starting university studying engineering in the fall and she intends to keep it fun while performing well on the bike and in school.
Thomas is 17 years old, races for AWI Racing and is attending post-secondary this September. This award means a lot to Thomas as it allowed him to overcome the financial barriers of traveling to Canmore, AB for Canadian National Championships. He has high hopes in the sport of mountain biking, “Ever since I started racing bikes I always aspired to be on the World Cup circuit.” Thomas is a hard-working athlete and is progressing well in the sport.
Forward Racing wishes all the best to these determined young athletes and hope they work hard to reach their goals. More importantly, they hope they enjoy and absorb the rich lessons and experiences that our sport offers.
Forward Racing hopes to continue the Development Fund in the future and support young up-and-coming athletes in the best way possible. Thanks for reading and have a great day.
